Olympic champion Evgenia Medvedeva has decided to make a frank admission: at the peak of her career, she was faced with osteoporosis, a disease that could have ended her athletic career. The reasons were the grueling training and extreme diets she had to resort to in order to stay in shape.
On the air of the program “Dobro fon,” the figure skater painfully recalled what her diet looked like before the most important competitions.
A week before the Olympic Games, I ate an energy drink for breakfast, three chewing candies for lunch, and yogurt with one strawberry and a little salad for dinner, she shared.

The situation reached a critical point after the Olympics: having suffered a fracture of her right leg, Medvedeva went to Germany for treatment. During the appointment, the doctor, after examining her, pointed out a problem in her back – the pain was so severe that an urgent X-ray was required. The results were shocking: three spinal fractures and advanced osteoporosis.
That’s why the bone in my leg crumbled. What was it, what caused the osteoporosis? Malnutrition, heavy workloads. I was told that 85-year-old grandmothers have bones like that. And I was 18 at the time,” the athlete noted bitterly.
Her body, deprived of essential minerals, began to “draw” them from her bones. Nevertheless, Medvedeva was able to return to the ice and continue competing. Now, having finished her sports career, she shares her story to help others avoid similar mistakes.
