“The Maid”

The blockbuster hit starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney hits streaming just in time for the March holidays. The story centers on a young woman, Millie, who tries to leave her troubled past behind and takes a job as a housekeeper in the luxurious home of the Winchester family. At first glance, everything seems perfect: the opulent mansion, the perfect manners of the owners, the strict order. However, gradually Millie notices tension between Nina and Andrew Winchester and realizes that behind the outward well-being lies a complex web of omissions and deception. Caught in someone else’s conflict, the heroine delves deeper into the secrets of this house, where their secrets unexpectedly intersect with her own. To maintain control of her life, Millie will have to decide which of the tenants to trust.

“Family Happiness”

Stasya Tolstaya adapted Leo Tolstoy’s novel, which dissects the feeling of love and carefully depicts the inner world of a growing girl – she is played touchingly by Evgenia Leonova. After the death of her parents, Masha is left in the care of Sergei Mikhailovich, a longtime friend of her father. Over time, gratitude and affection develop into a more complex feeling. Masha experiences an emotional whirlwind, which she had previously only read about in books, and it seems that reciprocity makes this story a true embodiment of a romantic dream. But after the wedding, the couple faces their first serious trials: youth, life experience, and different ideas about love begin to collide. To save their relationship, they will have to learn to listen to each other and rethink their own expectations.

“Love on Call”

The original title of this chamber film is Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, and its tone is much more delicate than the Russian title suggests. Emma Thompson plays the leading role, her partner is Daryl McCormack. Sixty-year-old Nancy, recently widowed and having lived her whole life within strict rules, decides to take an unexpected step – she calls a young stripper Leo Grande. However, the meeting gradually turns into a conversation between two people who are trying to honestly understand themselves. Over several encounters, a story unfolds about accepting one’s own body, loneliness, and the need to stop playing the roles imposed by society. For Nancy, this is a chance to re-evaluate her life and allow herself freedom for the first time.

“Paris Can Wait”

This film was the directorial debut of Eleanor Coppola, the wife of Francis Ford Coppola, who made it at the age of eighty. The main role is played by Diane Lane, who began her career with Francis Ford’s films. Her character, Anna, accompanied her husband, a film producer, on his trips for many years and lived in the shadow of his career, not really thinking about her own desires. Everything changes when her husband’s business partner, Jacques, invites her to go on a short road trip across France. The road, which stretches for several days, turns into a leisurely discovery – of tastes, conversations, landscapes and new sensations. Gradually, Anna begins to take a closer look at her life and ask herself what she really wants.

“Mrs. Fletcher”

In this series, comedic actress Kathryn Hahn unexpectedly reveals herself as a subtle dramatic performer. Her character, Eve Fletcher, experiences a moment when the familiar structure of her life disappears: marriage is a thing of the past, and her only son has left for college and is starting an independent life. Left alone, Eve, for the first time in many years, wonders who she is outside of her roles as a mother and wife. A casual fascination with internet fantasies gradually turns into a reason to rethink her own desires and limitations. The series, with irony and attention, shows how a woman can rediscover herself at an age when stability and calm are usually expected of her.

“These Brave Girls”

This British comedy series tells the story of a family in which only women remain. Single mother Deb (Louise Brealey) and her daughters Josie (Cat Sadler) and Billie (Lizzie Davidson) are trying to cope with life after the head of the family disappears from their lives. Along with debts and domestic problems, they also get a feeling of emptiness, which each of the heroines tries to fill in their own way. Their decisions are often impulsive and not always wise, but it is in this chaotic sincerity that the character of the family is revealed. The series combines comedic intonation with an observation of how people experience disappointment, loneliness, and attempts to start over.

“Dear Relative”

Anna Parmas once again returns to her favorite theme—observing the characters of women of different generations. The plot centers on a St. Petersburg family who dream of solving the housing issue and finally moving out. The only obstacle is their wayward relative, Dima (Timofey Tribuntsev), who disappeared from their lives ten years ago and unexpectedly returned to their shared apartment. He has no intention of moving out, which means the relatives are forced to look for increasingly inventive ways to solve the problem. This story is a clash of temperaments and life strategies: a cultural worker, her practical sister-bureaucrat, a pregnant daughter, and an intelligent grandmother are forced to unite. Behind the comedic situation lies a keen observation of family dynamics and the psychology of women who are used to keeping everything under control.
