Six years ago, Vitya Myasnik appeared to viewers as a recovering bandit who had to hide far, far away in the North from his former accomplices. But even at the beginning of his “move,” viewers sensed his charisma.
A lot has happened over the years: Vitya started a family, took over the mayor’s seat from the money-hungry Yan Tsapnik character, and rid the northern town of corruption. His life has proven that Vitya Myasnik embodies all the traits of a true Russian hero: always ready to help and stand up for justice.
Over the years, Myasnik has become not just a hero, but almost a distant relative for the viewer who lives somewhere in the North. Kind, fair, inspiring good and wise deeds, Myasnik is an example of how you can turn your life around 180 degrees if you really want it: move from conventional evil to good, open your own farm instead of the racketeering and crime of the wild 1990s. If you ever get lost, just turn on “Polar” and Vitya Gromov will remind you that it’s never too late to start over.
I imagine him as a Russian hero. Vitya Myasnik was once in a strong position, and then suddenly he became the defender of the Russian land. This happened because his inner needs, the questions of justice that torment him, forced him to become like this, – said the actor Mikhail Porechenkov in one interview.
New Year’s atmosphere
“Polar” has long been synonymous with the winter holidays. It’s hard to imagine New Year’s Eve without the new season of “Polar”, which has been airing for six years now. And this time was no exception!
Lots and lots of snow, garlands, snowmen who silently watch over the work of the police of the city of Polyarny, sweaters with reindeer, reindeer rides and, of course, miracles – all this awaits the viewer in the new season. After all, the events take place on New Year’s Eve. The heroes themselves remind us that there is only a month left until the holiday, so it’s time to stock up on tangerines, finish knitting your sweater with reindeer and turn on “Polarny”.
Viktor Gromov, like all of us, will have to get everything sorted out before the chimes and calmly settle in for the New Year’s holidays. But will he succeed, knowing how much work will fall on him on the eve of the celebration?
New characters
The fifth season will be rich in new faces. Some of them are just starting their careers, some have been in the profession for a long time, and some have recently gained popularity, but have already managed to earn the title of TNT crush. Yes, we are talking about actor Oleg Gaas.
Filming at Polyarny was a new, truly interesting experience for me. I’m originally from Siberia, but when I arrived in Apatity and Kirovsk, I was still impressed—most of all by the nature and the incredible amount of snow there. The entire team worked together seamlessly: an excellent film crew, wonderful actors, and a great director, with whom we quickly found common ground. There was a lot of freedom for improvisation during the process, which is always valuable for an actor. For my role, I even grew a beard—it’s now part of my “Polar” image, Oleg Gaas said.
He will play Vitya’s son, Max, who suddenly appears out of nowhere. Father and son knew nothing about each other because Vitya’s ex-girlfriend (Inga Oboldina) kept everything a secret. However, knowing Vitya, you can be sure that the acquaintance will be comfortable for everyone!
The Wild Nineties
What Russian viewer doesn’t love stories about the 1990s? In the fifth season of “Polar”, we’ll have not only the aroma of coffee from Vitya’s eco-farm and frosty snow, but also the smell of leather jackets, synthetic sports leggings, and the sounds of Tamagotchi buttons.
Attentive viewers have long sensed the presence of this era through details in the series. For example, the Soviet interior, cups from a set “for better times”, and the many magnets on the old refrigerator have long hinted at the presence of that time. And the crime boss Barabulya feels like he lives in the 1990s. He doesn’t know that cash registers haven’t been robbed for a long time, because everyone pays for everything with cards now, that even the most inveterate scammers read their astrological forecast online, and that food is now delivered straight to your home.
Where is the country heading?, he grumbles, looking at all these “horrors of modern times.”
And the viewer will also find out what Vitya was like in his youth in the 1990s. This is definitely worth seeing!
A cult comedy
Viewers first encountered the series in 2019. Since then, the comedy has captured millions of hearts with its simplicity, humor, plot, and, of course, snowy landscapes. Moreover, viewers were captivated by the pressing social issues the series addresses. This is the honesty of “Polar”: it’s not afraid to talk about reality, corruption, and government officials, while remaining kind, funny, and genuine.
The series became an immediate hit because it doesn’t simply tell the story of a former gangster in a small northern town. “Polar” is a more multi-layered story: about second chances, about true friendship and about the fact that goodness and justice are stronger than even the most severe frost.
