Creative director changes at fashion houses have become commonplace in recent years. And yesterday, November 5th, it was announced that Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing, who has worked for the brand for the past 16 years, is leaving his post. Rousteing took up the position in 2011, at the age of 25.
Today marks the end of my Balmain era. Sixteen years ago, I began this adventure, not knowing what the future held. It was an extraordinary story—a love story, a life story,” Rousteing said of his departure on social media. “None of this would have been possible without my family, my team, my colleagues, and all the people who believed in me from the very beginning.” Like every story, this one also has an end.
In conclusion, the fashion designer thanked his fans for their support.

Thank you for your support, for your love and for accompanying me season after season on this beautiful Balmain journey. At 24, I came here with my eyes wide open and determined to always move forward. Today, I leave the House of Balmain with my eyes set on the future.
Over the years, Rousteing has dressed countless Hollywood stars in Balmain, from Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian to Zendaya and Cardi B.
I would like to express my deep gratitude to Olivier for creating such an important chapter in the history of the House of Balmain. Olivier’s contribution and passion over the past years will leave an indelible mark on fashion history, – commented on Olivier’s departure, Balmain CEO Matteo Sgarbossa.
The name of Olivier Rousteing’s successor is currently being kept secret.
