Prince Abdul Mateen and Princess Anisha of Brunei announced the birth of their daughter last weekend. The entire country joyfully celebrated this joyful news: the event was celebrated with a 17-gun salute fired from the grounds of Istana Nurul Iman, the Sultan’s official residence. The fourth son and tenth child of Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah shared the news in a national address on Sunday, February 8.

The name of the newborn has now been revealed: the young parents announced that they have named their daughter Zahra Mariam Balkiah and published the first photo.

According to Brunei media, the child was not included in the line of succession to the throne, since the Succession to the Throne and Regency Decree of 1959, enshrined in the Constitution of Brunei, provides that only men have the right to the throne.
