Kelly Clarkson has taken to social media nearly a month after the death of her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. The singer marked the anniversary of her 2002 “American Idol” win with a tribute on Thursday, Sept. 4.
“To everyone who took the time to call and vote for me 23 years ago, thank you. Winning “American Idol” changed my life, and I will be forever grateful to all of you who supported me over the years,” she captioned the post. “Finding your calling and passion is truly a gift, and being able to do it for a living is just the icing on the cake.” Thank you.

Clarkson and Blackstock have an 11-year-old daughter, River, and a 9-year-old son, Remington. The pop singer’s ex-husband died on August 7 after a long battle with cancer at the age of 48. Clarkson announced on social media the day before that she had canceled the remaining Las Vegas shows to spend time with her family due to Blackstock’s illness.
I sincerely apologize to everyone who purchased tickets to these shows, and I really appreciate your kindness and understanding, she wrote to her fans.
The former spouses settled their divorce in 2022 after years of litigation. However, as Page Six sources previously reported, Kelly has spent most of her time caring for Brandon over the past two years.
