Photographer Allan Tannenbaum made a career in the music industry as it flourished in the 1970s and 1980s, photographing iconic musicians, and
one of his most vivid memories is spending time with Lennon and Yoko Ono during the final weeks of the star’s life.

The photographer spoke to People magazine about working with the Beatle, with whom he spent a lot of time during the final weeks of his life. They first met in 1975.
I used to be a big Beatles fan, and John was my favorite. “I thought he was so cool, he was good at music, art, acting, and he was so funny,” he said. “And of course, we went to the hotel where he was rehearsing. The musicians were dressed really funny: they had jumpsuits and safety masks, but John didn’t have them, but he was wearing a red jumpsuit.” I was introduced to him and he was really cool,” Tannenbaum recalls.

Five years later, Tannenbaum crossed paths with Lennon again, this time after the artist was emerging from a creative lull.
John Lennon and Yoko Ono decided to promote the new album “Double Fantasy”, which they had just recorded. I suggested we try something with John and Yoko and their new album, and the editors thought it was a great idea,” the photographer recalls.
The photographer recalled that he had specially arranged a meeting in his studio in Tribeca for a portrait shoot for the magazine cover. He decided to show these photos to fans 46 years after the tragic death of the star.
