Mariah Carey has scored another legal victory in the lawsuit over her signature Christmas song, “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” Musicians Andy Stone and Troy Powers of Vince Vance & The Valiants sued Carey for $20 million, claiming she copied their 1989 hit of the same name.
While the case was ultimately dismissed, the lawyers representing the plaintiffs now face major challenges and will suffer losses. According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, the judge overseeing the case ordered the plaintiffs to pay Carey compensation. The five-time Grammy Award winner was ordered to pay $92,303.20 in fines, which her lawyers are now demanding reimbursement, and the court has granted the motion.
The plaintiff’s lawyers were also ordered to pay several thousand dollars to other parties involved in the case, which means that in total they will have to pay almost $110,000 for fighting the high-profile case, which they lost.
