Catherine Zeta-Jones is one of those actresses whose beauty doesn’t fade with age. At 56, the actress and mother of two has a flawlessly toned figure that many young actresses would envy. What’s her secret? “Healthy eating and the right environment,” the actress laughs. In a recent interview with Harper’s BAZAAR, the star revealed that she likes to start her day while everyone else is still asleep. In the quiet, Catherine drinks a cup of freshly brewed coffee in a French press, then goes for a walk with the dog, and only upon returning does she start breakfast. It, by the way, depends on the time of year. In winter, it’s porridge with brown sugar, bananas, and blueberries. And in the spring and summer, the actress prefers light low-fat vanilla yogurt with granola, blueberries, and raspberries.
I usually don’t have breakfast before 8 a.m. I also have special requirements for breakfast – it’s all about daylight hours.
According to the actress, she eats three times a day without snacks. Not counting a cup of tea with a piece of chocolate at 11:00. But on weekends she allows herself whatever her heart desires.
As a family, we cook good British fried potatoes; I take imported British bacon, sausages, baked beans, and an omelette. And for the American contingent in my family – my husband and two children – we make French toast with Canadian maple syrup. Every weekend we have a fantastic family brunch.
For lunch, Catherine loves to gather with her husband Michael Douglas and everyone else who is home at the time.
We love family dinners. I don’t know, maybe it’s because of my European roots. When all the family members, everyone who lives in our house, stop what they’re doing, sit down and have lunch.
Catherine prefers a light lunch consisting of a salad and grilled chicken, fish or eggplant. In addition to the lunch dish, she drinks a cup of coffee and finishes the meal with homemade scones – a type of British pastry.
Talking about how she and her husband usually have dinner, the actress says:
Michael and I usually sit down to dinner before eight in the evening. We’re not big fans of late dinners, but when we come to Europe, our whole life adapts to the European schedule, so we have dinner later, but we also go to bed and wake up later.

For dinner, Catherine orders an apple and avocado salad with filet mignon, shiitake mushroom sauce and vegetables.
What I really love is cauliflower cheese. I guess I’m a big cheese lover. I think it’s because my mother wasn’t a great cook, but this was her signature dish. It’s just a little piece of home. I love desserts, I adore ice cream and, of course, my mother’s apple pie – when combined with ice cream, I am a very happy woman.
