Prince William and Kate Middleton won’t be able to live in their luxurious new Windsor home full-time once they become king and queen, Page Six reports. Aides said last week that the couple’s new $21 million Forest Lodge would be their “forever home,” but that’s not quite true.
The sprawling estate, located within the secure grounds of Windsor Castle, will give the Prince and Princess of Wales much more space — eight bedrooms compared to four in their current home. However, they will still have to spend a lot of time at Buckingham Palace once William takes the throne.
“They will need a base in London,” said Hugo Vickers, a writer and friend of the royal family. — Remember when Queen Elizabeth was in Windsor when then Prime Minister Theresa May stepped down in July 2019, she had to split her time between two houses and then welcome in new Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Vickers said.
The king needs to be in a place that is convenient for working with the government, the expert said. The Wales family also has access to their former permanent home, a flat in Kensington Palace, which they spent $6.5 million renovating. They are expected to move into Forest Lodge later this year, with renovations currently underway.
