Kate Winslet is trying her hand at directing: her Christmas film, based on a script by her son Joe Anders, will be released in December. The Oscar winner told Deadline that she decided to direct a film based on her son’s script when she felt like she couldn’t “let go.”
It’s just an amazing feeling to direct my first film at the age of 50, the actress said of the film “Goodbye June.”

The film “Goodbye June” will be released in select theaters on December 12 and will also be available on streaming platforms online on December 24. The 49-year-old actress admitted that she had never thought about the role of a director before, but at some point she realized that she could not pass up this opportunity.
On Christmas Eve, the mother of four adult children falls ill, their father does not know what to do, since they have to sort out complicated family relationships in the face of a deadly disease. But June handles the situation with humour, blunt honesty and a lot of love, the synopsis reads.
The film stars Helen Mirren, and also stars Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough and Timothy Spall.
I think I’ve met enough actors to have, I think, some degree of instinct as to what works and what doesn’t, Kate concluded.
