Legendary costume designer Molly Rogers, who worked on the TV series “Sex and the City” and all of its spin-offs, as well as both “The Devil Wears Prada” films, spoke on Wednesday, May 6, at a panel discussion at the Fashionphile flagship store in New York. Molly revealed secrets from the set of the cult film starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, and also criticized the Met Gala, which was sponsored this year by Jeff Bezos.
“I wouldn’t have gone,” Rogers said. “I’m disappointed in those who did.” I know Meryl didn’t go, but others in our cast did, and that’s their right.

On Monday, May 4, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci posed on the red carpet at the 2026 Met Gala.
I think the real work of art was the young man who was protesting outside, Rogers added, answering a question about the outfits of the evening.
Panel moderator Amy Odell clarified that Rogers was referring to Chris Smalls, the leader of the workers’ union Amazon, who was arrested during a riot at his protest at the foot of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Rogers then mocked Bezos’s fiancée and her custom-made dress.
How did she make Schiaparelli look so cheap? — the costume designer noted.
Many Met Gala regulars skipped the ball this year, including Zendaya, Bella Hadid, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lady Gaga, and Emily Ratajkowski.
