The drama “The Station,” co-produced by Okko and Sreda, will be shown at the Cannes Film Festival. The world premiere of Sarah Ishak’s film will take place on May 18th as part of the competition program of “Critics’ Week,” designed to celebrate new names in cinema.
“The Station” was Sarah’s full-length feature debut and has already won the Venice Film Festival prize for best project in post-production.
The drama takes place in Yemen. The main character, Layal, runs a unique gas station intended only for women. The gas station serves as one of the few truly safe places in a country torn apart by the horrors of civil war. The film is based on real events that Sarah witnessed in her hometown of Sana’a.
Sarah’s earlier short documentary film, “Karama Has No Walls,” about the Yemeni revolution, was nominated for an Oscar in the 2014 category for Best Documentary Short Subject.
