Nicolas Cage gave an exclusive interview to People, in which he revealed whom he prefers to play – heroes or villains. He also admitted that he turned down the role of the Green Goblin in the 2002 film Spider-Man to star in the nominated film Adaptation.

The other day, at the premiere of the film Spider-Man: New Day in New York, the 62-year-old actor said that he wants to play different characters – both villains and superheroes.
Villains? I’ve played villains many times. “I like both. I think both are important in cinema. I wouldn’t want to get stuck on one thing,” he said.
Cage also explained that in the early 2000s, he discussed the possibility of playing the Green Goblin with Spider-Man director Sam Raimi, but decided to star in the 2002 film Adaptation because he felt it was the best decision at the time.
I decided to star in a different film, a much more modest and noirish one, even more romantic than tragic,” he added. — But I remember telling Sam, “I hope whoever you cast as Spider-Man has at least a little bit of spider body language. He crawls on the ceiling in his apartment.”

In the end, the role of the Green Goblin went to Willem Dafoe, and Tobey Maguire played Spider-Man.
Meanwhile, Cage was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor in the film Adaptation. He had previously won an Oscar for Best Actor for his role in the 1995 film Leaving Las Vegas.
