Trudie Styler, an actress, producer, and longtime creative partner of Sting, helmed the film. Up Against It marked her first feature film since her debut drama, Freak Show (2017). “Up Against It” is a romantic tragicomedy that balances on the edge of eccentric comedy and serious family drama. The plot centers on a couple of ex-spouses who are trying to overcome mutual grievances after a divorce for the sake of the well-being of their child. The main conflict unfolds around an unexpected dilemma: in order to help their first child, the ex-spouses consider having a second child and try to understand whether it is possible to revive the long-faded closeness for the sake of the family. The film explores mature themes, contains explicit content, and contains profanity, but the creators present them in an inventive comedic manner.
