Kate Middleton and Prince William attended the investiture ceremony of Sarah Mullally as Archbishop of Canterbury at Canterbury Cathedral in Kent.
44-year-old Kate and her 43-year-old husband attended the public service of the Archbishop of Canterbury, where Dame Sarah became the first woman to occupy this post in the entire 1,400-year history of its existence. For the special occasion, Kate wore a checked cashmere coat by Suzannah London and completed the look with a striking accessory – a checked straw boater hat by Juliette Millinery.

The princess also wore black leather heels by Ralph Lauren Celia, and as accessories she chose a mini bag Chanel Mini Classic Handbag and Cavolfiore earrings with pearls and diamonds by Cassandra Goad.

Due to windy weather, Kate had to hold on to her wide-brimmed hat as she and William drove up to the church. The couple did not take an active part in the service, but watched it as one of the parishioners.
