According to royal family insider Kinsey Schofield, King Charles III’s aides follow a strict risk-management protocol during Prince Harry’s visits to his father. It turns out the king’s private secretaries are always on standby, ready to intervene if a conversation becomes awkward or a complex request is made.
“Every meeting ends with the king reminding him that his next engagement will require additional travel time and that he must leave,” Schofield told Page Six. “During meetings, a maid or butler serving tea may deliberately linger rather than immediately leave the room.” It was the King and his courtiers who carefully considered how to interact with Prince Harry to ensure there were witnesses in the room.
This protocol was said to have been developed over years and dates back to before the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.
Palace aides or trusted friends were often present at meetings and during phone calls, both as witnesses and to provide necessary support, Kinsey claims, referring to the late monarch’s protocol. “Buckingham Palace now approaches every interaction with Prince Harry from a perspective of protection, rather than relationship preservation,” she said. “Some may find this sad, but from the palace’s perspective, the situation over the past few years has led to the belief that many of Harry’s decisions ultimately served his own interests rather than those of the family. Whether that’s fair or not, that reality is what shapes how they now navigate this relationship.”
Schofield also responded to reports that Queen Camilla wanted to be present at her husband’s upcoming meeting with Harry in the same room with him.
From my understanding, the Queen isn’t particularly keen on communicating with Harry and Meghan. She will support the king when he asks, but sees no point in returning to old grievances, Kinsey explained.
Before this, it became known that Elizabeth II held telephone conversations with Meghan and Harry in the presence of witnesses.
