His Maxim is one of the most memorable male roles of recent times and one of the best roles of his career—deep, heavy, and very masculine. The female roles are no less powerful: Anna Bogomolova and Valeri Zodova. A real revelation was five-year-old Andrei Rozhkov as Pashka — his natural, sincere childish performance is called by many the best in the film.
