Dragon Boat Racing
This year, Hong Kong celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Sun Life Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races, which means guests can expect spectacular races, live music, a variety of cultural events, and a culinary carnival in the Tsim Sha Tsui district. Incidentally, over the years, the event has acquired a global scope, and this summer, more than 220 teams from 16 countries will participate in the races.
Hong Kong dragon boat racing is traditionally considered a celebration of sport and culture. In addition to the thrilling racing battles taking place on June 27-28, guests can look forward to a 13-day festival from June 19 to July 1, offering immersive entertainment including workshops, VR dragon boat racing, live music, a dedicated area with local street food, and the chance to take a memorable photo in front of a 22-meter dragon boat.
Unique Treasures of Ancient Egypt
Ancient Egypt: Treasures of the Egyptian Museums is the largest, most comprehensive and long-term exhibition of treasures of Ancient Egypt in Hong Kong, which includes an extraordinary collection of 250 valuable artefacts, including Statues of pharaohs and deities, gold jewelry, large-scale sarcophagi, and animal mummies are on display. The objects come from seven renowned Egyptian museums, including the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, the Luxor Museum of Ancient Egyptian Art, and recent archaeological finds from Saqqara. All artifacts are being displayed in Hong Kong for the first time, and many are being shown outside Egypt for the first time, making this exhibition particularly significant.
In addition, on November 22, the Hong Kong Palace Museum will host a special Egyptian dance performance as part of HKPM SHOWTIME! and support the 8th Hong Kong International Egyptian Dance Festival. The festival includes Egyptian dance master classes, captivating performances, vibrant competitions and insightful presentations on global choreographic research.
Hong Kong Horse Racing
Hong Kong horse racing has a rich history and is an integral part of the culture. The races are held at world-class racecourses such as Happy Valley and Sha Tin, and support the city’s unique amateur racing format. So, at the Happy Valley racecourse, in addition to the races, there is a traditional party “Happy Wednesday” with live music, drinks and themed entertainment.
